Sheraton

What%26#39;s up? Some reviews of this hotel are good/great, and then some (esp on the Sheraton website) are gosh awful. I know differences are common, but these are huge swings...esp about the staff and the service. We have just booked an Early Oct trip (oceanfront) there..now very nervous.

Sheraton

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

I just commented on the Sheraton in a post earlier today - you might check it out:

tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g29218-i304-k27559…

I used to work there for 5 years - I think it is a lovely property with a fantastic beach location on Po%26#39;ipu Beach, which is usually swimmable (check daily conditions always) - the ocean wings are divided into two - the pool/beach wing overlooks the (obviously) pool and beach area facing towards the east - the Ocean wing overlooks the grassy pathway and ocean and faces towards the West (Spouting Horn, sunsets) - both are ocean view category. Both are lovely and have updated and wonderful decor. The garden and partial ocean view rooms are across the narrow Ho%26#39;onani Rd. and are nice as well - just not as large or elaborate as the ocean view rooms. Two pools on property (average sizes) one on the garden side (quiet and peaceful) and one on the beach area.

There is Shells restaurant right on the oceanfront for breakfast buffet and dinner - Naniwa Japanese restaurant and The Point, which is a lounge and which also has a terrace by the ocean that serves lunch and pupus and cocktails - it is right on a point directly over the ocean. A Sundries store and Kohala Bay Collections store also. Plantation Gardens Restaurant is about 1/2 block away also.

It isn%26#39;t a ';luxury'; property - but it is a wonderful mid-level property located on the best swimming beach on the South Shore. I don%26#39;t know how anyone could be humbug on it - unless they are expecting the Ritz Carlton.

We really liked it. Great location on the beach. There are two sections to it - the front along the beach and the back section on the other side of the road. The differences between the two sections may have something to do with the swing in reviews.

We had the buffet breakfast included - which got a little boring after a while. Food prices in the restaurants are downright silly - but that%26#39;s common for hotel food. The casual dining area has wonderful french fries!

Make sure that you understand where the parking is -- not that it%26#39;s all that difficult, but you may not intuit the location.

I thought that the desk staff was pretty, well ... didn%26#39;t really care. That was 4 years ago - so maybe things have changed.

Wow, guess I just make it under the wire since I%26#39;ve been gone from the front desk 5 years! lol

The girls that I know who are still working the Front Desk are long-time employees who work very hard and are invariably gracious and friendly with the guests - many of whom are less than ';nice'; with them. I honestly couldn%26#39;t take it after 5 years - the negativity was really getting to me (the front desk is essentially a complaint desk at the Sheraton) and affecting my general outlook outside of work.

I have to say while I love the folks I worked with at the Sheraton (and still do)- doing the torchlighting show at the Hyatt is much better for me! I%26#39;ve yet to have a complaint, but rather get lots of friendly smiles and mahalos.

It takes a special kind of person to handle a front desk position day after day - it ended up getting the better of me - but it was a great learning experience. I have nothing but respect for all front desk staff after my years in that position.

I called Sheraton%26#39;s front desk today to ask if there was a shuttle between hotels (think of listening to music and having drinks some nights at the Hyatt). The front desk person said only ';no shuttles'; without something like ';I would recommend you do this....'; or ';how about you do....';

really cold response...not like customer service...

When I told her why i was asking she said ';well, then you need to rent a car';.

Guess it was how unfriendly she was that bugged me....and of course we are gg to rent a car! duh

To the gal who worked there - thanks, can you suggest a specific area to ask for...room number range or floor range..we are deluxe ocean front, but would like to put in a request for some area you might think is better than others.

thanks again.

I think the people who have a negative experience with the Sheraton feel that way because they are expecting the Hyatt. The Hyatt is VERY different from the Sheraton and is in a whole different class. The Sheraton is much more laid back and has a bit more of a %26#39;homey%26#39; feeling. The Hyatt is much more upscale and and would have more polished? service. You need to do your research when you book. But after looking at some of the reviews, it seems that people who book an ocean room are generally very pleased.
