Most Serene, Natural Area of Kauai??

I am planning on exploring Kauai for 3 days in late June. I will be coming from a week stay in Waikiki prior to Kauai, so I%26#39;m really looking for an area that is very natual/lush (jungle-like), peaceful, and away from all of the tourists.

I will be traveling alone during this time (single female...I%26#39;m assuming Kauai is very safe?), and this will be my very first trip to Kauai...so any input would be greatly appreciated!

Please let me know in which areas I should start looking for my accommodation.

Thank you in advance. =)

North shore is the lush area you are looking for.

North Shore, though you won%26#39;t really get away from everyone - lots of folks love it up there. I usually head up to Koke`e for the day if I really want to get away.

Stay on the North Shore for sure....

For peaceful and away from tourists....recommend Secret Beach...there will be enough people to make you feel secure but you can be on your own. Waialua Beach is another. Both are absolutely beautiful places that are a total scramble to get to, but that%26#39;s what it takes to escape tourists. UKG can tell you more.

I really enjoy beaches at sunrise. If anyone is around, they are nature lovers like me. I have AMS Syndrome (Afraid of Missing Something), so I am out early every day. Even busy places are quiet then. (Even Waikiki!)

The north shore will be very lush and lovely and compared to Waikiki will be peaceful. Though not totally empty of people, yet you will be able to find a stretch of beach (or jungle) all to yourself with hardly any problems. The REALLY popular north shore beaches that get ';crowded'; are Ke%26#39;e, Tunnels, and Hideaways, so go to those early, then bail when more people show up about 11AM or so. Ha%26#39;ena beach, between Ke%26#39;e and Tunnels is huge, so you can surely find a spot of solitude, as is the beach whose name I always forget that is just east of Tunnels--when Tunnels is packed, this beach is usually deserted and the snorkeling is nearly as good, but it gets more current so check local conditions carefully. Anini is another loooong beach where people can spread out and not be right on top of each other, and you can wade out quite a ways into the water on smooth sand and just.....be.

One of the most beautiful places that is a little bit off the beaten path is Moloa%26#39;a Bay. I know there%26#39;s little rentals there as well as fancy luxury rentals, but no condos or hotels or any tourist draw other than the spectacular natural beauty.

That is Kepuhi Beach, one of our favorite places to snorkel. Not a great beach to hang out on all day due to lack of shade and it seems to be windy there, but the snorkeling is very good.

Agree with others that you will find what you%26#39;re looking for on the north shore. There are a number of places that are a bit inland from the ocean that will give you more of that jungle feel if you don%26#39;t want to be right on the ocean. Here is one that always intrigued me:

Check out vrbo.com for some other options that would be similar to this.

Yes, North Shore area. You will need a car. As far as accommodations, Princeville is very touristy IMO. You might check on vrbo.com for something in the Wainiha or Ha鈥檈na area. Very jungle-like up there. Hanalei is another choice. It鈥檚 a small town, but spread out along the gorgeous bay.

I feel Kauai is VERY safe.

Kepuhi! Thank you, DBL!

Ke%26#39;e Beach will be the most crowded of them all. This is where the hiking trail starts so I would head to other beaches like Tunnels, Hideaway, Secret, Anini (past the camping area).

My vote is for the North Shore as well. The lush green North Shore sounds like what you want.

Traveling alone is fine and Kauai is pretty safe, but like any place esle you don%26#39;t want to put a tag around your neck and say I am alone come get me. You might want to stay in a ';resort'; or condo close to other people vs a cottage by the sea type of place where you might be a bit isolated.. The better places are probably taken but there%26#39;s still plenty out there to choose from.

In Princeville are condos and many to choose from. Also the Westin Resort.

You will be 10-25 minutes to that seclusion you crave. From high on the bluff of Princeville you will wake up to beautiful mountain and ocean views.

Here is a page with links to many things to see and do on the North Shore:

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

I%26#39;d also say somewhere on the North Shore if you are looking for ';lush, jungle-like'; scenery - however it is very popular so honestly I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll be able to find anyplace ';away from all of the tourists'; -- others think the same way you do!

I%26#39;d recommend looking for a vacation rental (other than Hanalei Colony Resort, there are no condos or hotels in Hanalei or past) in the Wainiha or Ha%26#39;ena area - this area is beautiful and very lush and if you stay on the beach, you are more likely to have a little area comparatively to yourself.

If you really want to ';get away from all of the tourists'; my best advice would be to go to the mostly residential and non touristy West Side - but that is the warmest and driest part of the island, so it is the least ';jungle-like'; I%26#39;m afraid. Gorgeous long stretches of deserted beaches though.

This is a very safe island, but as a single female visitor use the same caution that you would exercise anywhere.

Good luck!

Janet
