Kayaking in Kauai

My fiancee and I are about to head to Kauai for our honeymoon (yay!). I was just wondering if anyone had recommendations for kayaking in Kauai. Neither of us have kayaked before so we%26#39;d probably be better off taking a guided river tour but with so many to choose from, we have no idea which one to do. Thanks.

Kayaking in Kauai

I recommend the guided tour to Secret Falls.

Kayaking in Kauai

Our first kayaking experience ever was on the Wailua River with the hike to the [not so] Secret Falls. We did it on our own without a tour and enjoyed it. However we have enjoyed other kayaking experiences in Kauai better since then. The Wailua can be a bit noisy with the motorboats and skiers.

If you%26#39;re on the north shore there are several tours of the Hanalei River. Some of them also go out into the bay and even over to Hideaways Beach.

Here are a couple of links to check out:

We%26#39;ve also rented from Pedal and Paddle in Hanalei and they are very helpful, but they don%26#39;t have guided tours as far as I know.

ck my post

need north shore kayak advice

do Kalihiwai River and then spend a day at the beach,

you won%26#39;t need a guide and can spend some qual time together, trek to the falls,

I like the looks of Kayak Hanalei and am leaning towards going with their Bay Explorer tour. Any other additional thoughts or suggestions are still welcome though as I%26#39;m still undecided.

woody,

I would recommend that everyone take a first guided kayak trip...

Why?

Because 90% of the people kayaking our rivers have not a clue one about what they are doing...

On a guided kayak tour, you should learn the proper way to paddle, steer, stop, back up, turn in tight quarters.

Also learn about the effects of current, and wind, and where to be on the river to best handle both of those.

And, even learn how to get back into the kayak should you huli.

It will only take one guided tour, and you can apply what you have learned in future kayak paddles.

Gota get, Erica says it is gym time..

have fun....you might think of the Wailua for you first trip.
