What car company is located at the Hyatt? Should we reserve in advance before we arrive on 5/17 or will there be economy cars available on a daily basis as we feel we want to drive around?

AFAIK Budget is located at the Hyatt. Im sure they could furnish you with a vehicle without a booking.

Yes reserve ahead of time go through this company much cheaper than going directly thru budget and budget will email you a confirmation directly, pick up is at the Hyatt.

Hertz is also at Hyatt in addition to Budget.

It is better to book in advance to get a cheaper rate and to get the car that you desire because sometimes availability is limited.

Wow, I went to the hawaiidrive-0.com website...could not get a rental for a day for an economy car for less than $68/day....what is up with that? Anyplace cheaper close to the Hyatt or at the Hyatt?

Try expedia.com. Just for fun, I plugged in pick up on May 17 and return on May 18, the daily rates for an economy car are (US$ of course):

Enterprise, 1888 Kalakaua Ave, Suite C107, Honolulu, Hawaii

$34.99/day

Budget, 2424 KALAKAUA AVE, HONOLULU, HAWAII (Hyatt)

$47.99/day

There are cheaper rates but they are outside the Kalakaua strip. Ask them if they provide pick-up/drop service.

When I was there, I rented directly from budget.com and got a good rate because it%26#39;s a corporate rate.

Logistics: The Budget rental office is on the second floor by the escalator. The cars themselves (understandably) are in the basement. So go upstairs first.

There is no gasoline on site, so the policies about bringing the car back empty/full may be different from what you are used to.

Absolutely reserve the car NOW.

Budget is a better company to rent from than Hertz at the Hyatt site. Trust me.

The Hertz office at the Hyatt is poorly staffed. They just don%26#39;t have their act together and are incredibly indifferent to the fact that they screw up so bad. As a general rule, we always use Hertz - we are Gold Club members ... but we avoid the Hyatt location. This isn%26#39;t a single occurrence. Last time around we used Budget and they were great. Well-staffed, knowledgeable, courteous.

There are no gas pumps/tanks at the rental sites at the hotel. Probably safety or water quality reasons. Therefore, cars aren%26#39;t always tanked up - and you might need a fill-up before you head for your destination. They adjust their policies accordingly. These are small operations, so they don%26#39;t have the huge stock of cars that the airports do. For that reason, you really need to reserve your car in advance. And - they may have shorter hours than you are used to - so be sure to ask.

As for fuel policy, I assume you bring the car back with the same volume of fuel as picked up with? Half a tank on pickup, return with a half tank. No credit given for any extra you leave in the tank above half full.
