My Maui Vacation & other musings

Left the condo in Honolulu at 5:00pm on the 23rd of April. Ahh.....in Kahului at 7:30pm. Flight, luggage and car rental non-eventful. Wonderful PC Cruiser which I%26#39;ve never had the pleasure to ride in. Arrived at friends home after quicky dinner at Wendy%26#39;s for talk story and early to bed.

Awake and ready to go early. Went to Paia for breakfast at Charlies, then upcountry to see what the Jacarandas were up to. Beautiful drive, most of the Jacarandas were still getting ready to bloom but the ones there were, were magnificient. On to the winery for tasting. Yumm. Not a wine fanatic but I do love pineapple champagne!!

Back down the mountain and heading toward Kamalole Beach Park. DH snorkeled Kamaole 1 while I sat in the warm sunshine. DH shorkeled the south end and found most of his favorite fishies, including a huge turtle. He came to shore and we walked beach side to the south end where I could see the turtle from shore. Yes, I%26#39;m finally back in Maui. Back to our wonderful friend%26#39;s home for dinner and bed.

Up very early to head to Honolua Bay for Earth Day events. The groups we belong to finally got approval by all government agencies and with the help of Maui Land and Pine and Rainbow Rentals, installed porta-potties at the main entrance trail to Honolua Bay. Check out the art work in the potties, done by local school children!! Blessings by a Kapuna and we were off for clean-up, REEF surveys and a Trilogy boat which was there for REEF Check and a new pilot program called Snorkel Trails, which is just in it%26#39;s infancy. It was a huge success and tons and tons of trash mainly from Lipoa point filled the bins. The rocky beach and the bay it self were amasingly clean.

Tired, but satisfied, back to Kihei for showers and a 7:00pm reservation for my favorite, Buzz%26#39;s Warf. Meal was as always, wonderful and the mango creme brulee was a great ending to a great day.

Up early again, Sunday morning the 26th, packed and headed for the Maui Prince for some R%26amp;R and snorkeling at Maluaka Beach. Met friends at the beach and I did my first snorkeling since late August. Yes, the fishies missed me and I them. Still as beautiful as always and the clarity of the water was amazing. Didn%26#39;t see a turtle myself but the friends I was with saw a baby Hawksbill!! Critically endangered so it was wonderful to know there was a baby out there. I got cold fast and couldn%26#39;t stay in long but enough to satisfy my need to snorkel.

The Maui Prince gave us an upgrade to full ocean view room with king size bed. They also let us check in 3 hours early. Had room service for lunch (yum) and headed for the pool and hot tubs. Had room service again for dinner. It was just pizza, which was horrible, so won%26#39;t make that mistake again. Oh well..... Had the breakfast buffet the next morning which was great and headed back to the beach. DH snorkeled again, I had run out of energy so got a lounge chair and umbrella and spent the next four hours basking in the Maui scenery and sun. Back to the pool for more hot tubing and a mango daquirie (sp)? then it was time to leave.

Went back to Kihei to say goodbye to our hosts and off to the airport. Return to Honolulu was uneventful and back home by 9:30pm.

At the beginning of April, I had a medical set back and spent 10 days in bed. Then the computer decided to go on the fritz. When will it ever end?!!!! Just by some fluke, I could get back on the internet today, so hopefully I%26#39;m back for good. Still may have to take the stupid computer into the shop, so if I disappear again for a few days, you%26#39;ll know why.

Sure was a great Maui trip and it%26#39;s good to be back on Tripadvisor with all you wonderful Maui lovers.

Aloha,

msfuzz

My Maui Vacation %26amp; other musings

Hey msfuzz. Glad to hear you got back to your beloved Maui and all those fishies!! Sounds like a productive and relaxing trip all at once. How does Maui manage to do that??

It is good to have you back. You have been missed but knew you were having a good time.

Sorry to hear of your illness and computer problems. At least those kind of things do help us appreciate the good times, good things and good people we meet along the way.

Aloha msfuzz,

What a treat to have you back on the Forum! I%26#39;m sure it was a treat for Maui to have you for a few days too. Sounds like you did all of your favorite things in the short time you were there.

So awesome that the people are taking responsibility for cleaning the trash from beautiful Honolua Bay. Next time I am there I will get involved on some level for sure. Looking forward to seeing the artwork in the porta potties by the children, they must be so proud:-)

Take care now!

Big contented sigh...all is right with the world! Hope those computer gremlins stay away...welcome back.

I love your term ';shorkeled';. I think it might be a typo, but it fits perfectly - shore snorkeling SHOULD be called shorkeling!

Aloha Msfuzz! Good to see you here and read your trip report. Be well.

Msfuzz - welcome back. We were at Honoloa today and noticed the new porta-johns at the trailhead. So that%26#39;s some of your work, huh? Way to go! And it looks like people are getting the message to pack out what they pack in. the shore was very clean. As for the snorkeling, well there is still a bit of a north swell so it wasn%26#39;t quite up to summertime standards, but still not bad.

So glad to see you back, you have been missed!!

Great trip report, almost felt like I was there with you!

Oh msfuzz, thanks for reporting in, especially on your trip. Wish I was in Maui...it%26#39;s been so long. I know how tired you were on that long flight from HNL to OGG. (Try my 8 hour one..excuse!)

Loved the details on your trip and nice to read about you%26#39;re efforts, as well as the fun snorkeling and hangin%26#39; with DH. I tell ya, if the turtles didn%26#39;t see, well they missed something special. (That%26#39;s what the turtles always say about missing Caddy! LOL!)

Hang loose with us on TA when you can. Those darn computers %26amp; Internet have a mind of their own. (Might want to go ';clean out the kapu'; from the inside of it!)

Hope to read more from you!

AND HEY EVERYONE! HAPPY ';LEI DAY';! (5/1/2009)

Caddy
