Kuhio Banyan Club

I belong to TAN (Travel Advantage Network) and have made reservations at the Kuhio Banyan Club in Honolulu from December 27- January 3 and then want to make reservations in Maui for 1/3-1/10 at the Maui Banyan Club. I haven%26#39;t seen many good reviews about the Kuhio Banyan Club and have seen some okay ones for the Maui Banyan. Has anyone ever stayed at either one of these places or know anything about them.

First time in Hawaii and I%26#39;m nervous about the accommodations.

Sincerely,

Denise Ashford

Kuhio Banyan Club

We booked the Kuhio Banyan Club through RCI in 2006. Positives: Very convenient, everything%26#39;s within walking distance in Waikiki. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Room was small, but clean. Our bed was a murphy bed, which folded out from the wall.

Negatives: you had to park a block away. I think we paid $15-17 per day for parking. Unloading our luggage was uncomfortable--my husband and I unloaded everything on the sidewalk and he went and parked the car.

Don%26#39;t expect a lot of luxury, but it is an economical vacation!

Kuhio Banyan Club

Thanks for your input. I appreciate you responding.

If I amy I would like to ask, How was your actual stay there? I have made reservations to stay there Sept 27-Oct4, 2008? I too haven%26#39;t read too many reviews about the Kuhio Banyan Club. Also, where did you find parking and how much? I would greatly appreciate your kind response.

Sincerely, Caren

We are thinking about staying here in May, 2009. This is our first time to Hawaii and am also nervous about this place. We have a couple of others we are thinking about. Can anyone give us a current review. Have they done anything about the parking? That may be a deal breaker.

We just spent 12/27/08-1/3/09 at the Kuhio Banyan. Location is good, staff was polite and helpful. Our room had a murphy bed, couch, love seat, TV next to murphy bed (couldn%26#39;t watch TV in bed),table with 2 chairs and a kitchenette. Room was small, but clean. We didn%26#39;t spend much time in room. My first impression was oh no..we got use to it by mid week. We did a lot of sightseeing. It was very noisy..right on street. We did park a good block away! Wasn%26#39;t too bad! Property next door was a mess and you had to look at it as you left your room. We spent our first week in Honolulu and 2nd week in Maui. I%26#39;m glad I did it that way...Maui was very nice. We are part of the TAN vacation program. It was our first time as well and if the Kuhio Banyan was the only place we stayed I probably would not have had a good impression of our first visit. The price was right...but there are no amenities. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your review of the property. We have decided not to stay at the Kuhio Banyan Club, your review solidified why we elected not to. We%26#39;re staying at the Ohana Waikiki West which seems to have some good reviews. The price is the same and we will have have a kitchenette. Plus we don%26#39;t have to park off the property.

We just got back from staying at the Kuhio Banyan Club. When we first got there I was a little taken aback because it is not much to look at...very old, no updates, no pool, murphy bed and a very old lumpy couch, worn carpet, elevator that barely fit 3 people...certainly only 1 with luggage but.....great location (only 1 block from Waikiki Beach, bus stop was right in front with easy access to Diamond Head, Hanama Bay, Pearl Harbor and Monoa Falls hike through the rain forest. We were never in the room much so it actually was okay.It was clean and no bugs which counts for a lot. I would never stay there again but this was all that was open for a RCI trade so I am glad I went. One other thing..this HUGE woman checked us in and she was VERY unfriendly which started us off with thinking ';what are we doing here??'; but as it turned out the rest of the staff was very friendly and accomodating. They really should put her in maid service because she starts the trip off on a very bad note. So, I guess if you plan on being out a lot (ho isn%26#39;t in Waikiki?) and you have low expectations,,,,it is okay.

Im with TAN aslo ( starting to fell like it was a bad move and waist of money) me ,my wife an two friends stayed at TANs Molokai ';Hotel Molokai '; and it was not as we thought. the staff was nice but the rooms where odd to say it nice. open air, you could not sleep as the partying was going on till 4am and you can hear everything !!! all night long. all of the other places TAN has to offer seem to have bad reviews also...... the crays thing is , some of the reviews you read say they loved the places. i wounder about those reviews...

good luck and please post a review of your stays id like to know who it turns out.

thanks kevin ( chicago, Taned by TAN )

We stayed at the Kuhio Banyan Club for two weeks in March 2009. It has a murphy bed that easily folds out. The kitchen has a two burner electric stove, microwave and tiny coffee maker. The noise from the street was covered up by the air conditioner. The only time we had it on was at night when we wanted to sleep. The reception staff was very friendly and helpful . They had chairs, umbrellas, towels, books to read and boogie boards; all to borrow for free. We reserved this thru RCI and bought a 2 week timeshare thru an internet auction that we will use in the future. There is no pool or hot tub. It is a no frills place. You cannot hear the people in the rooms above or next to you so that is nice. Rooms are clean. No bugs. Excellent housekeeping staff. Lots of older couples staying here. I would recommend it to everyone.

The place was a dump and I would never stay there again. AC was so noisy and had mold all around the wall. Fridge kept nothing cool enough and the laundry is very inconvenient. The ';free continental orientation breakfast'; is a scam. They are only interested in selling and marketing time share products. But Waikkii is a money extraction area!!
