Dinner recommendation by Smiths

We are attending the show only at Smiths, decided to skip the dinner/drinks there this year. Any recommendations for dinner near there?

Hukilau Lanai is just a few minutes away. Very good food and service. That would be my vote.

If you like Japanese food then my second choice is Kintaros.

which direction do you want to go? North or South?

If South, you%26#39;ve got the many restaurants by the Marriott. Dukes, Cafe Portofino, Kalapaki Joes, Thai (forgot the name but really good), Mexican and a diner. Plus JJ%26#39;s (forgettable) and a couple more in that shopping center I%26#39;ve never tried.

If North, I agree Hukilau is the best choice in Kapaa.

Why not try the Wailua Marina Restaurant next door to Smith%26#39;s? You can have a river view, friendly local service and moderately priced meals. You%26#39;ll only have to move your car a short distance to get to Smith%26#39;s Tropical Paradise Polynesian Review.

If the Wailua Marina doesn%26#39;t look like what you have in mind, the other restaurants noted above are good choices. In addition to those options, there are others such as the Lemongrass and Island Palms in Kapaa that often get overlooked except by those staying nearby.

Have fun!

we are anxious to hear your report on attending the show only at Smiths. Wondering if you get good seats or stuck in bad ones. How was the parking, we have 2 members of our group that have walkers, the others are not able to walk long distances either. thanks

I second the recommendations for either Hukilau Lanai or Kintaro%26#39;s. Kintaro%26#39;s is our 2nd favortie sushi/Japanese restaurant (luckily, our favorite is right here in our home town). Hukilai Lanai is also a fabulous choice. Both places are good for early dinners before the show at Smith%26#39;s.

There really aren%26#39;t any bad seats for the show at Smith%26#39;s. Think open-air amphitheater with the stage in front of you, separated from the seats by a moat. After dinner, everyone gets herded from their tables into the theater, so the quicker people will get the front seats. Not a big deal since there%26#39;s maybe 15 rows, and they also have space on the sides of the seating area for people in wheelchairs, with strollers, etc.

On a busy night, parking can be packed, but it isn%26#39;t a huge, huge lot - probably about football field sized. You can always drive up to the front and drop off those with difficulty walking, then park the car. The employees will be more than happy to help out.

Hukilau Lanai. It is expensive but enjoyable. Very close to Smith%26#39;s.

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

I%26#39;ll second ';Hula4Me';s suggestion for the Wailua Marina Restaurant - an inexpensive, old-Hawai%26#39;i style place (also owned by the Smith ohana) that overlooks the serene Wailua River - and is literally at the end of the parking lot from Smith%26#39;s Tropical Paradise, where the lu%26#39;au is held.

Not fancy, not ';foodie'; - but I love it and the food has always been good there - the people lovely and friendly.

Malama Pono,

Janet

I third Wailua Marina Restaurant- it is one of my favorites on the island! It is very much old Hawaii and would definitely help you get into the luau spirit.
