trip report 4/16-4/24

Wow....another great trip to paradise....our 8th in last 9 years. After a non stop flight from Atlanta got to Royal Lahaina Resort for 1 night stay prior to our villa being ready. Great new rooms in the tower...now if they just would update the cottages............After an early turn in we slept like logs and then took a walk along the beach. We then went to the Gazebo for breakfast for the 1st time. While it was a great setting and the food was good we decided NOT worth the wait of almost an hour for breakfast. Checked into the Westin Villas North (South last year)and our 2 bedroom was great. Even the studio side where our friends stayed was outstanding. King Bed, full size walk in shower, full size refridgerater, sofa bed, washer and dryer and a balcony big enouugh for 2 people with table and chairs. Cannot say enough good things about this resort and cannot figure out why anyone would complain. Great pools, dining and space for all. Grills are used and cleaned each day. We grilled steaks one night and it was outstanding. Did our breakfast, lunch and cocktails from provisions gotten from Star market up the street. Did a sunset cruise that was very nice...saw last of a few remaing whales each day. Dining out consisted of CJs Deli (not the best food but good in a pinch) Plantation House for lunch and great as usual.....Hula Grill beachside that was good although a limited menu....Lelaini Beachside that was lousy as compared to other years.....Kimos in Lahaina that was a great meal after cruise...and our last night at the Seahouse that was outstanding on atmosphere and food. Maui was great as always and we will be back next year....weather was mostly sunny and little rain only at night except for last day when we left for 3 days on Oahu ( that TR on Oahu forum) No vacation is perfect, but you always have to roll with the punches and don%26#39;t repeat mistakes next time. AND remember you cannot control the weather and other peoples attitudes. Your vacation is what YOU make it...Mahalo and Aloha

Have you already started planning the next trip?

trip report 4/16-4/24

We were in Maui almost a year ago and ate at many of the same places...and shopped at Star!! Looking at Westin Villas for next time...may I ask why you switched from South to North...and which you recommend? Thanks. And so glad (but not surprised) you had a great vacation!

Thanks for the report! Concise and to the point! Next year walk down to Castaway Cafe for breakfast (although I%26#39;m a HUGE Gazebo fan!HA) Sounds like you took your ';aloha'; with you! Always agreat idea.

Sounds like a great trip with a great attitude.

South Villas have the best pool area...but North Villas have a balcony in the Studio side...the South Villas only have a tiny area to stand on instead of a full balcony. So if you are in a studio unit, the North is much better as part of the fun is sitting on your balcony for coffe and/or evening cocktails. Mahalo

Our group DID do Castaways for light dinner (forgot about) We walked by there each morning and breakfast looked like a good idea there but we always opted for breakfast on our patio/balcony each day. Next year we will try Castaways for the morning fuel. Yes we are already planning next year vacation. We do an exhange each year so we don%26#39;t know when we will go, but rest assured we will be there. Aloha

Great report bogie. We%26#39;ll be in Maui May 10-17. Was your sunset cruise a dinner or cocktail, and who was it with?

Tks

We did it with Pacific Whale Foundation out of Lahaina Harbor. It was the sunset/Cocktail cruise and they had an open bar and small heated eats. It was a 2 hour cruise from 5:30-7:30 and got us back in time for a late night dinner at Kimos which was NOT crowded and our party of 4 got in their and seated right away. ONLY reservation we had for dinner was Seahouse as they are very popular and then we waited in the bar for 15 minutes so we could get a railside table.
