car rentals from cruise piers

I was wondering if anyone rented a car during their cruise? I have a two-day layover at Maui and with a family of four was thinking of saving some cash and touring the island ourselves. Any suggestions or experiences with rental cars, and driving would be appreciated.

there are none... you will need to take a cab to the airport....they may offer a shuttle if you book the car through a ship...but on your own...no

well that stinks! Thanks for the info.

Dan is wrong about this. Maybe this applies to BI, but on Maui the rental companies have shuttles at both Kahului and Lahaina on boat days. Rental car locations are just minutes away from either harbor.

You do not have to book the car through the ship to use the rental car shuttles. These shuttles are operated by the rental car companies. The only caveat may be if you are in a hurry to get on the road or running on your own schedule, then you might need to use a cab.

But don%26#39;t ask here--ask the rental car companies.

Wonderful! We are really excited to drive around and see as much as we can. The shuttles will be convenient. I want to ';go off the cuff'; and move around at my pace. I was reading alot about car break-ins, so I guess a jeep is out.

actually Enterprise Rental Car Agency is located on Hana Highway about a 5-10 min walk from the cruise ships

Google Enterprise Maui (Kahului)

Some ships stop at the pier at kahului and some stop and tender you in to Lahaina.

Check which your port is and then call the rent a cars.

In Lahaina there is a spot for the car rental shuttles to pull over and pick up their clients.

It would be great to have a rent a car on Maui.

Easy to find your way to great beaches, surf towns or historic sites.

Also ask the rent a cars for suggestions for overnight parking near your ship.
