Priceline - current rates?

Hi! I saw a previous post that said you could check priceline options at ';biddingfortravel.com'; but I am having trouble figuring out how to navigate this site. I see lots of threads, but no current info.

It sounds like the Hapuna Prince Beach hotel is a commonly assigned property for Priceline. If I am interested in bidding - what is the search criteria (specific map area, # of stars)?

Sorry--never used priceline for travel and don%26#39;t want to get stuck with the Hilton after placing a bid! Thanks!!

Priceline - current rates?

Back in March I bid and won the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel for $75 from June 13-17. There have been a lot of wins for this hotel in the past few months.

The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is rated in Priceline%26#39;s 4 star category in the ';Waikoloa - Kohala Coast'; region. But the Hilton Waikoloa Village is also in this exact same region.

Since it appears from your post that the Hilton is not for you, there is technically no way to bid for the Hapuna without running the risk of getting the Hilton.

You could take a chance and hope that since all the low bids ($73-$95) that won a hotel room lately ended up getting the Hapuna Beach Prince, but there is always a chance that the Hilton could come up.

While bidding on Priceline, all you are able to choose is the star level and region and never a specific hotel. It%26#39;s always somewhat of a gamble.

Priceline - current rates?

I have spent some time on the bidding for travel website, and I agree, it is confusing, and there is a LOT of information to sort through. But there is a strategy for bidding that they lay out, and it seems to work sometimes, so I would suggest if you%26#39;re going to bid on Priceline, I would take the time to sort through the bidding for travel website and figure out the strategy.

A warning--you don%26#39;t know which hotel you%26#39;re going to get, so be prepared to get the Hilton (and there is no changing your choice after a bid%26#39;s been accepted, so you%26#39;re stuck, as you said). If you absolutely do not want the Hilton, then don%26#39;t use Priceline, because you might get it.

Again, read the stuff on bidding for travel before you bid.

It%26#39;s easy, just go to biddingfortravel.com and clip on ';USA Hotels';. From there pick one of the three Hawaii links to the different islands. At the top of the page there is thread listings the current hotels by either star rating or resort. After you figure out which ';group'; you wish to bid on go to Priceline.com and click on ';name your own price';. It takes some time but it%26#39;s worth it.

Your right about Hapuna Prince, they win many of the bids. It%26#39;s a very nice hotel with a great beach.

I mean click.

That%26#39;s really helpful--thanks for the clarification!! I think I might skip priceline in case I don%26#39;t get the hotel I want since there is no way to cancel.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a hotel or condo complex that would be more suitable for a person traveling alone? I am going to be doing outdoor activities most of the time and don%26#39;t really have a preference for Kona vs. Waikoloa -- in fact I was thinking of splitting my time between the two. Looking to stay at a place under $150 per night (not including taxes, cleaning, etc.) with easy access to water. Furnishings, luxury, etc. is not important to me but definitely want something clean and near ocean.

The Hilton sounded like it was more geared towards little kids, which isn%26#39;t what I was looking for on this trip. Definitely don%26#39;t need to stay in an adults only place, but with the size of that hotel it could all just be a different vibe than I wanted.

I%26#39;m in my early 30s and looking for a low-key getaway where I can explore the island with some quiet time. Any thoughts? : )

Katie - If you don%26#39;t have your flight, check Priceline for their vacation packages. The Hapuna has been coming up as a really good deal - less than $100 including all taxes and you can pick your specific flights. We used it for the best deal for our March and May trips. Couldn%26#39;t beat the price on any other site or by booking separately. I had never booked a package before so I was skeptical. The airline tickets were at the United sale price charged directly from United and the hotel was charged through Priceline.
