Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

If you go to Big Save in Old Koloa town - go down their candy isle - they have packets of it for sale -it is easy to find - pink powder in clear plastic packets.

Li hing mui

You might be able to find it at one of the ';farmers markets';. There are times and different places on the Island where they set up.

Someone will chime in.........

Well now it depends if you want it in fresh form or processed??

Longs Drug has tons of different li hing mui products...it depends on what form she wants it in...or what she wants it on.

You need to have her be more specific:

1. Li hing mui ';flavoring';, a powder which can be used for many purposes? In which case follow Koloa Girl%26#39;s advice.

2. Li hing mui confectionaries? Specifically dried plums and other fruits which are li hing mui flavored, and available in many locations.

Or,

3. ';Cracked Seed';, a wide-selection of flavored and preserved fruit based confectionaries, which are referred to generically by some as li hing mui. Also, available in many locations.

(The wet and dry lemon peel are the best in my opinion...they go great with cold beer..but are strictly not li hing mui flavored.)

i%26#39;ll have to ask her later this week, but she described it to me as like a nut or something??... i don%26#39;t know!!:) she told me it might also be called yick-lung. But it sounds like it shouldn%26#39;t be hard to find. THANKS!!!

Sueoka (in Koloa) also has a big selection. Look for the ';Jade'; label. It may be the only one actually made in Hawaii (on Oahu) - most of them come from China, Taiwan, etc.

My vote is for li hing mui apple slices!

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

Oh sorry, I thought you meant the li hing mui powder - which you can get at Big Save. They do also have a big selection of items flavored with it -as does Sueoka Store at the other end of Koloa town.

I haven%26#39;t seen li hing mui anything at the farmer%26#39;s markets around here, not to say that they might not have it once in awhile.

There is a whole aisle at Long%26#39;s Drugs in Kapa%26#39;a which has things from ';Wholesale Unlimited'; - a big snack producer of local goodies from O%26#39;ahu -- they have li hing mui everything - mango, gummi bears, gummi worms, and the traditional li hing mui seeds, which you can buy in either white or red.

A popular thing here to do is buy the powder and sprinkle it on things like slices of star fruit or apples -- tasty!

Any candy aisle in just about any store here will have a full selection of it - the movie theatre even sells li hing mui gummi bears and worms to put in your popcorn along with your arare!

Another ono item - in Anahola there is a lady that about this time of year will be selling ';pickled mango'; on the side of the road - this is a fairly rare delicacy here - I made some last year and it turned out great - so tasty!

Malama Pono,

Janet

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

Revise post above to say that the Long%26#39;s that has the Wholesale Unlimited aisle is actually the Kukui Grove Long%26#39;s - not Kapa%26#39;a!

D%26#39;oh!

Sorry, I can%26#39;t resist -- I have to tell this story. A number of years back, we had a guy who always came into our office and helped himself very generously to the candy dish on the receptionist%26#39;s desk. After a trip to Kauai, one of my colleagues brought back li hing mui flavored nuts (I think they were nut??) and put them in the candy dish. Anyway, the candy snarfer came in and threw a few of these back, turned bright red in the face and ran out the door screaming! I guess it is an aquired taste.
