Hi! My husband and I are planning a trip to Hawaii in July. Before we spent a week in the big island we will stay 2 nights in Oahu. We are arriving Late in the evening and plan on spending 1 day at Pearl Harbor and then the next day we would like to experience Waikiki/Honolulu before our late afternoon hop to the big island. After our week on the big island we are going to spend a day in Oahu again when we would like to rent a car and explore the other parts of the island before our late night flight home.
We would like to forgo renting a car for the first two days (Oahu) and I was wondering what our best bets for accomodations are. We could stay at one of the two airport hotels (free airport shuttle; close to Pearl Harbor) OR stay in Waikiki. I would like to spend no more than 100-120 a night on accomodations (less would be great) but aren%26#39;t sure what our best bet is location wise. Where is a convenient location for walking/taking the bus? I%26#39;ve looked at SO MANY Hotels and b%26amp;b%26#39;s and it is hard to know when you don%26#39;t know the area. Help!
Choice of accomodation when using the bus to get around
I%26#39;d stay in Waikiki. The airport hotels are in an industrial area with NOTHING sight worthy around.
In Waikiki you can at least stroll the beach or do some shopping. All the hotels are pretty close to the bus line. However the more reasonably priced hotels are on Kuhio Avenue, directly on the bus line, and only a block from the beach.
However one hotel I%26#39;d recommend, and one favored by a friend, is the New Otani Kaimana Beach hotel. It%26#39;s a 10-minute walk from the bus line but is away from the hustle-bustle of Waikiki. Plus it has a very nice and relatively uncrowded beach. It may be out of your price range but shop around - Waikiki hotels are hurting.

Thanks for your reply! I will check out the hotel you mentioned. Having a street definitely helps. Also, how long does it take to get to Pearl Harbor from Waikiki? Is it easy to take the bus? What is the cost and where can we get tickets? I%26#39;m hoping we can get them at the airport when we arrive and take the bus to the hotel. (we should arrive around 10pm--is there bus service from the airport to Waikiki that late?)
Thanks again!
USS Arizona Memorial is free.
USS Missouri about $15
USS Bowfin about $10
The buses go through Waikiki mostly on Kuhio Ave. So you%26#39;ll be close to bus stops no matter where you stay.

I think you ought to rent a car for the entire time on Oahu.
Absolutely stay on Waikiki. Buses are easy to catch from about anywhere on Waikiki. I%26#39;d stay on Kalakaua Blvd.

Shuttles run 24 hours. $9 each one way or $15 roundtrip.
Cabs are about $30-$35.
This is a link for the city bus airport to Waikiki. They have luggage size restrictions so you probably can%26#39;t take the bus.
