Big island of Hawaii- where to stay in January for 2 couples

My husband and I are planning way in advance for a vacation with my brother and sister in-law, they cannot go until January 2011 and they were there once before but the place they stayed on the big island is a major resort and we would like to have a house rental or condo (or a two bedroom suite in a hotel would work too)that has a water view with a pool and a swimable beach. I have heard the tempuratures can vary greatly from the one side to the other but we are in desperate need of advice and we are hoping to stay around $2,000 for the week, is this even possible? We don%26#39;t mind driving to do things but prefer not to be right in the middle of a large tourist area for our stay we also prefer to not have a lot of young kids or family%26#39;s around.

Ok... ONLY the large resorts have the swimable beach... Marriott Mauna kea are the only ones with really swimable beaches

In Jan your looking at 2 bedrooms on a beach, with a pool at $500 a night... and good news Kolea is the best....Bad News...Kolea is the only condo with a swimable beach on this island It will be with tax $4130 for 7 days

Homes will be 900 to 2500 a night.... and not be on a beach... far from it + 18% tax on all rooms and rentals.+ $400 cleaning

Condos in Waikoloa, near the beach, no water view, with a pool can be as cheap as $250 a night... which will be $2065 for 7 nights

Jan will be very wet on the east Hilo and Volcano and reasonable dry on the west Kona/ Kohala

What you are describing is best founf in Maui

Dear NC: Well you have plenty of time to shop around but maybe you should go w/o them before you get old, ha :) That%26#39;s so far ahead that even the airlines will not be able to book you.

Remember January will have less daylight hours on the beach by default and probably is high season for most accomodations (more expensive).

Re: condos there%26#39;s lot%26#39;s to choose from in the Kona area especially Keauhou south of town. Many of the condo complexes will have a pool. I%26#39;m thinking if you shop around you%26#39;ll be able to find something for under $200 per night (2 bedroom w/ nice view).

Just type in Kona Condo Rental and search away.

Abbey Vacation rentals has allot to choose from.

Better plan on driving to best beaches in Waikoloa 45 minutes north although Honokahau is pretty nice just 5 miles or so north of town next to Honokahau Marina.

Happy Travels, TheodoreJay
