I have been reading quite a bit and am considering booking/doing some activities to see the Na Pali Coast. These include booking a helicopter tour with Jack Harter, taking a Na Pali Catamaran morning snorkeling/sailing tour, and hiking the first part of the Kalalau Trail and Hanakakpi%26#39;ai Falls trail.
Is this too much overlap or will each afford something different and special? Opinions please.
Also, one specific question about the Na Pali Catamaran tour....where do they snorkel?....is it beyond Kee and beyond an area you could get to on foot?
Na Pali Coast tour question
Great questions and you will get varying responses. Let%26#39;s put it this way. If can afford to do them all then go for it. You could hike another trail if you%26#39;ve seen the cliffs from the air and sea.
The snorkeling spot is beyond Ke%26#39;e if you are leaving from the North Shore. You cannot get there by foot.
Na Pali Coast tour question
All three activities will give you different perspectives on the Na Pali coast. Obviously the benefit of the helicopter tour is that you will also see much more of the island. If you have the money and you%26#39;re going to be there more than a week, I%26#39;d say do all three. For a week or less, I%26#39;d pick either the boat tour or the helicopter and do the hike if you have time.
As far as snorkeling on the boat tour, I can only speak first hand of the Na Pali Catamaran. The snorkeling on that tour is at the northwestern most point on the tour - almost to Polihale Beach. The only way you could get there on foot would be to hike the whole Kalalau Trail. We found the snorkling there to be very interesting and somewhat different than most of the snorkeling we did from shore. The water was much deeper and there were different varieties of fish. Even saw a couple of reef sharks.
I would personally recommend the Na Pali Catamaran tour. Seeing the Na Pali coast from the water is an amazing experience, and the scenery is fantastic. It%26#39;s a relaxed trip, and you can really take in the beauty and inhale the wonderful salty air. I would recommend the morning tour. I%26#39;ve not done a helicopter tour but hear great things. I%26#39;m just not a helicopter person, so I%26#39;ve chosen not to partake in this one...at least not yet. If you have time and money for all three, I%26#39;d say do them all. If you only have time for one, I%26#39;d recommend the boat trip.
We did Jack Harter and had a great experience. Our best pictures were from the helicopter. We did the helicopter, hiking, and the catamaran (without the snorkeling). They are all very different, not too much overlap. Do it all if you have the time and the money.
Agree...
So em all, each will bring a different and enoyable and fun rewardd.
why do we suggest that...because that is what we did as early visitors to kauai.
Now we have 12 napali trips. , 3 helo tours, and loads of hanakapaia hikes ( first two miles of the kalalau ), and later 3 micro light flights with Birds in Paradise, and one fixed wing air tour with AirVentures.
Point being, it is all great, and we enjoyed it each time, no matter which company or adventure.
When we travel, and pay the freight to go on any vacation, we actually get out and explore and learn as much and experience as much as we can.
And, also get out and interact with the local people.
Of course , that is not everyones idea of a vacation, but it works well into our lifestyles and what we enjoy.
We only spin around on the planet for a few short years of a lifetime....and living life during that period is important to us.

We are doing all three activities next week when we arrive in Kauai. The Jack Harter--no doors, early morning Catamaran and the hike. Watch for my trip report after the 11th.
Greeting from Princeville. Funny, I done everything but the helicopter in the last two days. Na Pali Cat and it appears everyone goes about three miles beyond Kalalau Beach to an old fishing village site. You cannot hike past Kalalau Beach. The snorkel is just ok because the water is not as clear as Kealakekua Bay but it did have great stuff. The hike to the first beach and the junction to Hanakakpi%26#39;ai Falls was excellent. The trail is a little suspect in the beginning but it gets better. For and hiker or aging backpacker, it is a must do.
So for me there was no overlap. One is by land and two is by sea. Sorry.
Bill
You adventurers are great, and so is the weather..
Yea..sunshine !
And agree totally, the snorkeling here on kauai, is not as good as the BI. But, you will still have fun.
